About Us

Unlock the musical mind

At Sharadhe Music School, we see music as a fundamental form of expression, and that it’s no different from learning a new language. Once anyone learns to sing, it can become one of the most beautiful and indispensable tools to experience inner joy. With the right training and the right mindset, anyone can learn how to sing, irrespective of age or musical background. Carnatic music is no different. But just like any serious sport, it requires the necessary time, effort and the right kind of training to perfect the art!

We recognize that Carnatic music can be challenging to some, including those with “musical ears”, especially if you didn’t come with generational exposure to this art form. So we take utmost care to demystify the intricacies scientifically, and then explore it as an art form. When science is take care of, art automatically flows and that’s when the true joy of singing unfolds.

TESTIMONIALS

What People Say About Us

My daughter has been Jayashree’s student for the past three years. My kid is not only improving in singing but is also developing a deeper understanding of ragas and talas. One of the highlights of learning with Jayashree is her initiative in organizing workshops with visiting artists and experts. These sessions have been incredibly inspiring and have broadened my daughter’s exposure to different styles and perspectives within Carnatic music. She also keeps parents in the loop throughout the learning journey, which we really appreciate. Our family is grateful for her dedication and opportunities she creates for her students. Highly recommended for young learners!

Poornima Pasi ARIA's MOM

It was our dream to hear our 6-year-old son sing Carnatic music, but our initial attempts didn’t work out—until we found Ms. Jayashree Nagarajan through a friend. After just one trial class, he said, “Mamma, I want to learn music—when am I going to start?” Ms. Jayashree’s melodious voice, deep knowledge, and nurturing approach instantly connected with him. What we love about Sharadhe Music School is the structured curriculum, high-quality audio resources for home practice, and regular workshops that build confidence. She communicates clearly with parents, gives thoughtful feedback, and creates many opportunities for kids to perform. Our son adores her classes and looks forward to them every week—we’re thrilled with his progress!

Jayashree is a very patient teacher, and adapts her teaching style skillfully based on the student’s prior knowledge of and experience with music. She is passionate about music and teaching, and shares a lot of insights into Carnatic theory. Jayashree makes learning music enjoyable, while at the same time maintaining a high bar on the quality of teaching - I have had a great experience learning from her !

FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

What age is ideal to start learning Carnatic music?

We typically start children around age 5 or 6, when they can follow instructions and repeat simple swaras. Adults can start at any age—our beginner-friendly method makes it easy to learn even if you have no prior background.

Absolutely. Many of our students start off shy and gradually open up as they gain confidence. We create a safe, nurturing space where every child is encouraged, not pressured.

Yes! Our adult beginner program is designed for people with no prior musical experience. We break concepts down clearly and help you build confidence step by step.

We offer both online as well as in-person classes. In-person classes are best suited for those who don’t mind the commute (it can be a great excuse to visit the beautiful valley of Snoqualmie! and a forcing function to disconnect from your busy life. We are also accommodative of your busy lifestyle and definitely don’t want it to come in the way of your learning experience, so we offer lessons online as well.

For kids starting from the beginners level, we follow a structured curriculum laid out by my gurus that have proven to be one of the effective methods of introducing the art form, where they fall in love with this music at a very early age. We also have adults learning at various stages of the spectrum ranging from a complete novice who needs focused attention to ear training and vocal tonality to someone who’s already learned krithis in the past but find a bit rusty in their singing and want to revive their practices. We customize classes for each, based on their needs.

Yes! Students receive access to audio recordings, notations, and practice trackers after every class, so they can reinforce what they’ve learned at their own pace. We also record during the class session and share it with students, so each of them get customized corrections they can later reflect and course correct on.

We provide regular feedback during class, keep parents informed, and conduct periodic reviews and workshops to help students build confidence and track their growth. We also encourage them to perform through recitals and events throughout the year, and reflect on their journey.

Yes! We organize informal student workshops, recitals and concerts to help students experience the joy of performing and build stage confidence in a supportive environment.

We encourage regular practice, even if it’s just 10–15 minutes a day. With the help of our practice audios and parent-friendly tips, this becomes a manageable and joyful routine.
